The City of Durham will resurface Oak Grove Parkway from Wake Forest Highway (NC 98) to Stallings Road (approximately 1.18 miles). Resurfacing helps improve and preserve current roadway pavement conditions. 

During this process, the City can adjust current pavement marking designs on the road and install traffic calming features to increase safety for all road users. For example, on some roads, you can improve or add painted bike lanes and crosswalks, but this project will not allow you to address needs beyond the width of the road, such as building a new sidewalk. 

This roadway resurfacing design project will develop pavement marking designs that the City will install after construction. The designs will be based on current conditions and community input.

Funding

Planning and design for the Oak Grove Parkway roadway resurfacing project is City-funded through the Capital Improvement Plan.

PROJECT SCHEDULE
  • Engagement: March - May 31, 2024
  • Anticipated Design Completion: July 2024
  • Construction: Due to weather, the City of Durham pavement marking construction season goes from May through November. Construction is anticipated to begin and be completed between these months. For more information regarding construction, visit Public Works Street Repaving. 
Project Schedule Status

A design team - Kittleson & Associates and Three Oaks Engineering - was hired by the City of Durham to conduct field investigation and traffic analyses, develop design plans, and hold engagement meetings with the public. City staff kicked off the project in January. The design team is currently collecting data and assisting the City with planning public engagement activities. The City will begin holding public open houses in March 2024.

City staff will host a public open house and pop-up events to discuss possible pavement marking changes for Oak Grove Pkwy. Planners and engineers will attend these events to explain the work, gather feedback, and answer questions.
